Apex To Judge Students Business Ideas In ‘Dragons’ Lair’ Competition

Business students from Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) are currently putting the finishing touches to their business plans for this year’s Dragons’ Lair  event, which is sponsored by Altecnic and Appointments Personnel.

The College’s annual Dragons’ Lair competition, based on the hit BBC One series, Dragons’ Den, in which budding entrepreneurs get three minutes to pitch their ideas to five business professionals willing to invest their own cash, will be taking place at NULC’s Knutton Lane campus on Wednesday 16 May and Thursday 17 May.

The competition will be sponsored again by the UK’s leading supplier of plumbing, heating and solar products, Altecnic Ltd based in Stafford, and recruitment agency, Appointments Personnel based in Newcastle-under-Lyme. During the two days, judges from the following organisations will be freely giving their, advice and expertise to the hopeful students:

Dan Turner, Lecturer in Business at NULC, said:

“This is a tough activity for our learners and they find the task of writing a full business plan and pitching it to local entrepreneurs daunting. However, every year they rise to the challenge, impress the judges and ultimately enjoy the experience.”

During the competition, judges will be asked to critique each business proposal by scoring the student(s) business idea, pitch, market research and forecasted income. They will then select a winning team who would receive a cash prize to help launch their business idea.
