Summer School Trip to Lourdes Supported by Apex Action

A group of Year 11 pupils and ex-pupils from St Thomas More Catholic School, Crewe will be travelling to Lourdes in July this year, with one pupil place sponsored by Apex.

After completing their GCSE’s, the pupils will join members of the local Parishes in and around Crewe to go to Lourdes as volunteers. They will be just some of the 900 people from the Diocese of Shrewsbury who will journey there to join around 30,000 people for the annual pilgrimage.

Located in south-western France, in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains, millions of people visit Lourdes each year, drawn by their faith in miraculous cures attributed to the waters of the shrine.  Travelling by train the volunteers will spend 7 days helping the elderly and sick in Lourdes.  Their duties will include taking the pilgrims to and from mass, around the town to visit shops and cafes, as well as spending much of their time talking with them.

Mrs Donna Brown, Deputy Headteacher of St Thomas More says:

“A massive thank you to Apex for their support of the St Thomas More Lourdes Fund.  Their contribution will pay for a young volunteer to join the trip.

It will be a demanding & tiring trip, but at the same time a very rewarding experience for the pupils”.

St Thomas More Catholic School also raised £700 for the trip following a successful Pie & Peas night held in May.
