Apex Supports 39th World Worm Charming Charming Championships to Help Raise Money For New School Library

On Saturday 23rd June Willaston Primary Academy & the Friends of Willaston School Association host their 39th World Worm Charming Championships.  Proceeds from the event will fund the resourcing of a new School Library.

As well as the Worm Charming competition, a Grand Prize Raffle draw will take place.  Apex are delighted to have donated a Rainy-Day Box jam-packed with arts & craft materials as a prize.  Visitors will also enjoy summer fete games, a BBQ, fun inflatables, charity stalls, & food & drink outlets.

The competition is renowned worldwide and hundreds of people are expected to take part, with participants previously travelling from India, South Africa and the Philippines to join the local residents.

During this unusual event, contestants in each of the 144 3×3 metre square plots, have exactly 30 minutes to extract as many worms out of the soil as possible.  Charming techniques include vibrating a garden fork, jumping up & down, banging the ground with cricket bats, and playing music.  Prizes awarded will include the Heaviest Worm & The Championship trophy for the Most Worms.

Should anyone have any concerns about the welfare of the worms, worry not! The collected worms will be released the same day after dark so that they are less likely to be eaten by birds.

If you fancy a fun day out, plus a chance to win some superb raffle prizes, head to Willaston Primary Academy, Willaston, near Nantwich.  Gates open at 1pm & the charming begins at 2pm.  For further information visit www.willastonprimaryacademy.co.uk/worm-charming.
