Apex Action Supports 40th World Worm Charming Championships to help raise money to improve school outside learning space

On Saturday 29th June Willaston Primary Academy & the Friends of Willaston School Association (FWSA) host their 40th World Worm Charming Championships.  Proceeds from the event will fund improvements to their school’s outside learning spaces for students.

As well as the Worm Charming competition, a Grand Prize Raffle draw will take place.  Apex are pleased to support the event for a third year running, donating a raffle prize of books, sticker books & colouring pads.

This world-famous community occasion attracts hundreds of visitors, including competitors from Europe & beyond!  As well as the main event there are a variety of family friendly stalls & food & drink outlets to enjoy.

During this unusual event contestants in each of the 144 3×3 metre square plots, have exactly 30 minutes to extract as many worms out of the soil as possible.  Charming techniques include vibrating a garden fork, jumping up & down, banging the ground with cricket bats, and playing music.  Prizes awarded will include the Heaviest Worm & The Championship trophy for the Most Worms.

Of course, any collected worms will be released back into the wild on the same day, after dark so that they are less likely to be eaten by birds!

If you fancy a fun family day out head to Willaston Primary Academy, near Nantwich.  Gates open at 1pm & the charming begins at 2pm.
