Apex Action Welsh 3000’s Mountain Challenge Raises Over £1000 for The Neuromuscular Centre

This June, our Apex daredevil duo, Managing Director Chris Hutchings & Management Trainee George Hutchings took on the Welsh 3000’s mountain challenge.  Now they’ve finally got their breath back, we find out more from Chris & why he attempted this gruelling climb.

Why the Welsh 3000s Challenge?

It is a classic mountain challenge attempting to summit 14 peaks over 3000ft within 48 hours.   We joined a team of other trekkers to be led by adventurer & mountaineer Dave Talbot, who helped us navigate our way across the precarious Snowdon, Gldyder & Carneddau mountain ranges.

I thought it was a challenge worthy of sponsorship to raise vital funds for our charity partner & client The NeuroMuscular Centre.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?

The stunning views from Snowdon, across the Snow Horseshoe, looking back on Crib Goch & Crib y Ddysgl once the mist & rain had cleared!

What was the scariest moment?

Grade One Scrambling up and over the narrow Crib Goch ridge, in the pouring rain & mist.  The Crib Goch pinnacles are very exposed & not to be underestimated in bad weather.

What the best part of the trip?

An ice-cold lager in the pub at the end!

What was the biggest lesson you have learnt from this trip?

Preparation, the right kit & mental resilience … just like life really.

Would you recommend the adventure to others?

Absolutely, however, you need a good level of fitness & to undertake lots of hill training in advance.

Any future trips in mind?

At this precise moment my mind is says yes, and my body is saying no!  Watch this space!
